Kevin's Award-Winning Chili

Kevin hasn't told me just which awards this chili has won, but I am sure it's a whole bunch of 'em!


  • 3 T olive oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, diced

  • 1 large green pepper, diced

  • 1 lb lean ground beef

  • 1 lb hot Italian sausage meat, crumbled

  • 15 oz can tomato sauce

  • 15 oz can whole tomatoes

  • 15 oz can dark kidney beans, drained

  • 15 oz can light kidney beans, drained

  • 15 oz can shelled beans, drained

  • 2 T ground cumin

  • 4 T chili powder

  • 1 t salt

  • ˝ t black pepper

  • Shredded cheddar cheese



About an hour

To prepare:

  1. Sauté the garlic and the green pepper in the oil until tender. Set aside.

  2. Sauté ground beef and sausage until cooked through. Drain and add to garlic and green pepper.

  3. Combine remaining ingredients in large pot and bring to a simmer.

  4. Add garlic, green pepper, and meats and simmer for 30 minutes.

  5. Top with shredded cheese and serve.










Serving Ideas:

  • Just before serving, put portions into individual oven-safe dishes. Cover with shredded cheese and broil for a few minutes until the cheese is melted. Put each oven-safe dish on a serving plate and serve.

  • Serve topped with a dollop of sour cream, with fresh cornbread on the side.

  • Serve with cold beer.
